Abstract

After the capture of Sudan by Egypt, the Turkish Era began and general-governors were appointed there. Most of these governors were appointed to Sudan after serving military and administrative positions in Egypt. There are no works written in Turkish on the mentioned governors in all. The aim of the study was to give the names of the governors with short biographical explanations, to better understand the period and to eliminate the deficiency in this issue. The English works written on this subject are more than Turkish ones. However, British history writers, especially about the Turkish Period in Sudan, are in the humiliation, revile and distortion of the truth. For this reason, the governors and their performances were tried to be given with an objective perspective as much as possible by making use of Turkish works. In addition, some sources have differences in the names of governors. This is due to the fact that the aforementioned sources accept the Khartoum governors as the general-governor (hâkimdar). The study is based on those appointed as the general-governor. In addition to contributing to the literature, the study offers a different perspective to the researches on the period.
